Modern cruise missiles are small, about 7 meters long, and cost about $1.5 million apiece. Cruise missiles are subsonic, winged, long-range, turbofan powered, accurate, air to surface missiles, for internal and external carriage on B-52 and B-1 strategic bombers. In addition to the air-launched version, there are sea-launched cruise missiles (SLCMs), and ground-launched cruise missiles (GLCMs). Cruise missiles were used quite effectively during the Gulf War against Iraq. Their payloads can be conventional or nuclear in nature.
